The
procedures that we have discussed confirm that Australian English has a maximum
of 44 phonemes in tis phonological system. We can summarise our knowledge of
the system at this point by listening the phonemes in an ordered way,
indicating the phonetic description of each (but ignoring, this time, their
varying allophonic representations).
